About

I am Apostolos Bouzalas, a game developer specialized in technical design and gameplay mechanics, mostly in Unreal Engine. Feel free to checkout disclosed projects I have worked on.

I also enjoy writing brief guides on the subject of development, and I occasionally write some work-inspired… “literature“.

Bio

As a Technical Designer, I focus on Unreal Engine 4/5, where I implement gameplay mechanics, features, and integrate 3rd party SDKs. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Computing from the University of Huddersfield and a BTech from IEK OMIROS. My skill set covers Unreal Engine 4/5 Blueprint API, Animation Blueprint setups, Git, Perforce, and C++.

Since September 2020, I’ve been a self-employed contractor, partnering with studios in Greece and globally. My work usually revolves around Multiplayer, Gameplay, and AI development. I’ve even contributed to Flaming Fowl Studios‘ upcoming release. Prior to that, I spent a year at Purple Cow Studios, working on Unreal Engine 4. There, I focused on Gameplay, UI/UX, Multiplayer, AI, and SteamSDK integration.

Before joining Purple Cow Studios, I worked at Artnroll Games for a year as a Game Developer and AR Programmer. I developed AR mobile apps on Unreal Engine 4, leveraging ARCore, and also worked on Gameplay and UI/UX. Between 2016 and 2018, I operated as a self-employed contractor, specializing in Unreal Engine 4 and focusing on Gameplay, AI, and UI/UX.

In addition, I am currently contributing to Spartan, an MIT open-source game engine created by Panos Karabelas, doing debugging and manual QA testing.

My earlier career experiences are equally diverse. I worked as a Web Developer at Stilvopress, specializing in WordPress CMS, PHP, MySQL, and cPanel. I’ve also been an IT Support Technician at APOGEVMATINH S.A. and a Multimedia Programmer at Alpha Omega Graphic Arts. Additionally, I worked as an Actionscript Developer at Sivitanidios Public School Of Arts and Crafts, working with Adobe Flash AS 3.0, Adobe Dreamweaver, and PHP 5.x. These varied experiences have enriched my current work in game development.
